5.4. Event Penalty Structures
5.4. Event Penalty Structures
5.4.1.
In order to keep penalties consistent between incidents reviewed during and post race, the following structure will be used. Note that the majority of penalties are time based, as this is easiest to implement across the board.
5.4.2.
If a penalty is provided in race, it may be that Race stewards it more appropriate to require a driver to concede a position to another driver / drivers, instead of a full time penalty.
This is particularly useful as an alternative when the incident being reviewed concerns two drivers, with no additional ramifications.
Penalty Code | Description | Penalty |
NFA | In the eyes of the stewards, there is no reason to provide a penalty for a driver. This is most likely when something is seen to be a racing incident, or when no infraction of the rules have occurred | NONE |
P1 – Warning | A driver has committed a violation of the rules, and / or has engaged in unfair racing. It is however determined that a time penalty is not required at this stage. | Warning – 3x warnings in a race meeting will be escalated to a P2 penalty. |
P2 – Give Back Position | Driver has violated the rules in such. Way that they have unfairly overtaken another car. They are required to give the place back within 2 laps. If the penalty is assessed in the last 2 laps of the race and the driver does not take the penalty during the race, the driver will be placed behind the affected driver, REGARDLESS of the time / number of positions between them. This penalty can be revoked / changed if the distance to the driver to whom the place must be returned has become unachievable to give back, for example due to a further incident by the affected driver. | Driver must give place back within two laps or: Will have the penalty applied post race, or; Will be assessed for a further violation. |
P3 – 5 Second Penalty | A driver has violated the rules in such a way they have gained a slight unfair advantage, and therefore should be assessed a time penalty. This will be added to a driver’s time after the conclusion of a race | 5 second penalty – applied post race. |
P4 – 10 Second Penalty | A driver has violated the rules in such a way they have gained an unfair advantage, and therefore should be assessed a time penalty. This will be added to a driver’s time after the conclusion of a race | 10 second penalty – applied post race |
P5 – Drive Through Penalty | A driver has violated the rules in such a way they have gained a sizable advantage over another opponent, or has caused a crash which has impacted on the ability of others to complete a race. If this penalty is applied post race, the time loss from pit entry to pit exit will be assessed and applied as a time penalty. In addition, a driver may receive this penalty triggered by iRacing for going over the maximum number of incidents for race. | Drive through penalty – applied in race. If this penalty is applied post race, the time loss from pit entry to pit exit will be assessed and applied as a time penalty. |
P6 DQ | A driver has acted in such a way that the stewards have determined it is no longer fair for them to participate in the race. This may be due to multiple penalties being assessed, or deliberate aggressive and reckless driving. If this occurs in the first race of a 2 race meeting, the driver will be able to participate in the second race. | DQ. If post race, all drivers behind will move up 1 position |
